The current integration involves using Chainlink’s Verifiable Random Feature (VRF) to fairly and transparently select the winner of a special scholarship from a list of participants in the upcoming OVRLand scavenger hunt. In addition, the OVR team plans to use Chainlink oracles in the platform to connect the physical world with the OVRLand digital meta universe to create a virtual experience influenced by the real world. OVR is a decentralized platform for location-based augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences that aims to merge the physical and virtual worlds through AR. OVR allows users to create, place and view AR/VR features tailored to specific geographic locations. To do this, OVR divides the digital world into 300-square-meter hexagons, called OVRLands, each representing a geographic location in the real world. Each OVRLand will be tokenized using the ERC-721 NFT standard on the Ethereum blockchain. The owner of each OVRL and NFT can assign an AR visual experience to the specific geographic location represented by its NFT. But what if you could integrate decentralized logic into OVRL and NFT? What if you could take off-chain/geographic data and use it on a blockchain to improve interaction within a decentralized OVR meta-universe? That’s where Chainlink comes in, allowing OVR to securely and reliably link real-world events to the blockchain to trigger the execution of smart contracts. Data such as chance, geolocation, weather and others can be obtained from sources outside the chain and made available to the chain through decentralized Chainlink-based oracle networks. The most direct application of OVR is the use of chance to determine events in the meta-universe. However, the source of chance must have high guarantees that it cannot be manipulated or predicted to gain an unfair advantage, especially when chance is responsible for the movement of real economic values. Therefore, the OVR team has chosen Chainlink VRF as the winner of our newest 15k OVR token prize, which will serve as a community prize for treasure hunters and access to our larger 50k OVRL token and buyers wallet. The retrieval process is performed by a public, deterministic algorithm that enumerates an ordered list of OVRLand identifiers. Chainlink’s VRF is used to generate and provide a random number, which is used to choose a winner from the list in a fair and transparent manner. The Chainlink VRF works by combining block data, which is unknown at the time of the request, with the oracle node’s predetermined private key to generate a random number and a cryptographic proof. An OVR smart contract only accepts input of random numbers if a valid cryptographic proof is available, and a cryptographic proof can only be generated if the VRF process is tamper-proof. This gives users automated and publicly verifiable guarantees, right on the track, that selection with Chainlink VRF is demonstrably fair and cannot be manipulated or predicted by oracles, third parties or the OVR.ai team. In the future, the OVR team plans to use different blockchain data streams in addition to VRF. This data can be integrated into smart contracts to create an infinite number of types of interaction logic in the OVR meta universe – imagination is the only limit!
